ISLS Teen Spanish and Adventure Camps Playa Tamarindo Costa Rica

The following is the Itinerary for the ISLS Children’s Spanish, Art & Sports Camp in Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica. The camp is for children who are traveling to Costa Rica with their parents or guardians who want to have a fun and adventurous learning experience. The parents or guardians can take the adult classes or they can do their own thing during the hours of the Children’s Camp. All activities are scheduled for the dates and times listed below, but are subject to change due to weather conditions or other circumstances beyond our control. In case of a tour or activity being changed, we will do our best to reschedule. If a tour or activity must be cancelled and cannot be made up, there will be no refund.

Week 1, June 27th

Sunday, June 26th
5:00 pm WELCOME! We will have a Welcome Orientation at the school where students and parents will get to meet with the camp counselors, art teacher and school director. After time to meet and greet, the lead counselor and school director will go over the plans and schedule for the program ahead. They will be available to answer any and all questions that adults or students might have. All students will be given an oral and written evaluation to determine their Spanish level. 
Monday, June 27th
8:00 am Parents will bring their Children to the school. Students will sit down with a Spanish teacher and be given a language evaluation and then placed in their ability level. After the evaluations are complete, there will be a short break.
8:30 am Spanish classes begin. There will be a 10 minute break in the middle for drinks and snacks.
10:30 am Zip Lining @ Monkey Jungle Santa Rosa. Students will be transported by private van to a nearby nature preserve where they will be outfitted with repelling gear. They will then be given safety instructions from the tour guides before ascending into the forest canopy.  Once at the first platform, they will proceed to fly through the air suspend on metal cables attached to the trees. There are nine different cables and platforms of varying lengths. This is a very exciting and fun adventure, but also very safe.
12:00 pm BBQ Lunch @ Monkey Jungle.
1:00 pm.– 2:00 pm Free time for arts and crafts, nature trails, trampoline and Tarzan swing.
Tuesday, June 28th
8:00 am – 10:00 am Spanish Classes at the school.
10:30 am – 12:00 pm Beach volleyball, sandcastle contests and swimming at the beach.
12:00 pm Lunch at a nearby restaurant in Plaza Conchal
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Art Lesson (Mask Making)
Wednesday, June 29th
8:00 am – 10:00 am Spanish Classes at the school.
10:30 am – 12:00 pm Surf Lessons! Students will go to the beach before lunch where they will be met by local surf instructors. They will be given surf boards to match their ability and size. The instructors will give them information about safety and about the beach. After this they will break the students up into smaller groups and begin the lessons. The first part of the lessons will be on the beach followed by going out into the waves with the instructors. All instructors are certified lifeguards and have taken swift water rescue courses. There will also be a lifeguard on duty as well as all the counselors. Parents are welcome to come by and watch their children surf.

1:00 pm- 2:00 pm Futbol game at the beach
Thursday, June 30th
8:00 am –10:00 am Spanish Classes at the school.
10:30 am – 12:00 pm Visit to Local Elementary School. Students will be transported to the nearby Costa Rican village of Villareal. There they will visit the local elementary school. This is the main school in the area, where most of the local children attend. They will have a chance to sit in on classes and play at recess.
12:00 pm Lunch at a nearby restaurant in Plaza Conchal with the Costa Rican children.
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Arts & Craft Activity: to be determined
Friday, July 1st
8:00 am – 10:00 Spanish Classes at the school.
10:30 am – 12:00 pm Yoga class with Ashtanga Yoga Instructor and practitioner Mark Jansen
12:00 pm Lunch at one of the restaurants in town on the beach (El Pescador)
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Children’s choice activity!
2:00 pm Camp Graduation Ceremony. Students will be given certificates of completion for their Spanish. We will have a program wrap up with cake and drinks.

Week 2, July 4th

They will be given boogie boards to match their ability and size. The instructors will give them information about safety and about the beach. After this they will break the students up into smaller groups and begin the lessons. The first part of the lessons will be on the beach followed by going out into the waves with the instructors. All instructors are certified lifeguards and have taken swift water rescue courses. There will also be a lifeguard on duty as well as all the counselors. Parents are welcome to come by and watch their children boogie board.

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Futbol practice for tomorrow’s game.
Wednesday, July 6th
8:00 am – 10:00 am Spanish Classes at the school.
10:30 am – 12:00 pm Futbol Match against local Costa Rican children. Students will be transported to the nearby Costa Rican village of Villareal. There they will have a soccer match against a team of local children.
12:00 pm Lunch will be at a local restaurant in Villareal with the Costa Rican children.
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Art Lesson (Tico Wallet Making)
Thursday, July 7th
8:00 am – 10:00 am Spanish Classes at the school.
10:30 am – 12:00 pm Estuary Tour. An exciting adventure up the Tamarindo Estuary.
12:00 pm Lunch at one of the restaurants on the river. (El Coyote)
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Children’s Choice Activity
Friday, July 8th
8:00 am – 10:00 am Spanish Classes at the school.
10:30 am – 12:30 pm. Visit to Playa Langosta. Students will be transported by private van to Playa Langosta. This is the next beach south of Playa Tamarindo and is a very exclusive and beautiful beach. It is perfect for swimming and playing games on the beach
12:30 pm Lunch. There will be time and play and swim after lunch
2:00 pm Camp Graduation Ceremony. Students will be given certificates of completion for their Spanish. We will have a program wrap up with cake and drinks.

Week 3, July 11th

10:30 am – 12:00 pm Playa Conchal Snorkeling Trip. A fabulous beach that has near perfect weather year round.  The water here always remains at a comfortable temperature and is ideal for swimming or snorkeling.  Playa Conchal snorkeling is an exciting adventure with a fantastic array of marine life on display, you can swim with the many tropical fish that dwell here, and even catch a glimpse of stingrays that swim in the area.

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Seashell “conchal” collecting … beach combing for tomorrow’s art Lesson.
Wednesday, July 13th
8:00 am – 10:00 am Spanish Classes at the school.
10:30 am – 12:00 pm Art Lesson. (Conchal Wind chimes)
12:00 pm Lunch at one of the restaurants in Plaza Conchal in Tamarindo.

12:00 pm Lunch will be at a local Villareal restaurant with the Costa Rican children.
1:00 pm -2:00 pm Art Lessons. (Homemade canvas painting
Friday, July 15th

Wednesday, July 20th
8:00 am – 10:00 am Spanish Classes at the school.
10:30 am – 12:00 pm Visit to Monkey Park! Students will be transported by private van to Monkey Park. This is a privately run wildlife sanctuary and rescue center. Here students will see monkeys of all types that are found in Costa Rica, along with a number of other species. Some of these animals come to the park because they are injured and need time to heal before returning to the wild while others were once pets and they are trying to re-introduce them back into the wild. Along side the Monkey Park is the Marine Aquarium. This is a great educational experience and a lot of fun.
12:00 pm Lunch will be at a local restaurant in town at Plaza Conchal.
1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Futbol practice for tomorrow’s game. 
Thursday, July 21st
8:00 am – 10:00 am Spanish Classes at the school.
